BATAVIA – Remembering State Police Troopers who have given their lives in the line of duty will take center stage at a special memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Troop A Headquarters in Batavia.
The ceremony, at 4525 West Saile Dr., Batavia, will feature representatives from various law enforcement agencies from throughout Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Niagara, Erie, Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming and Allegany counties. The service will honor members of Troop A, who gave their lives in the performance of their duties.
Capt. Eric Balon, Jamestown Barracks, will not only attend the service, but will participate as well. We will have reaction on WNYNewsNow after the event.
Statistics show that, on average, 64 law enforcement officers are killed in the line of duty each year, a little more than five officers per month.
