ALBANY – The New York Department of Agriculture and Markets is donating another $5 million to the New York State Companion Animal Fund to upgrade animal shelters throughout the state.
The fund awards animal shelters and humane societies with state grants that could be used to construct, renovate or acquire buildings or new equipment to better care for cats and dogs. This is the second round of funding through this program.
During the first round of funding, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced over a dozen shelters and humane societies in eight regions throughout New York State were awarded $5 million through this found.
In order to acquire funding, applicants must provide matching funds, and be a nonprofit organization.
