CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY-As Election 2017 comes to an end, some of the major candidates are reflecting on a possible north/south county divide in Chautauqua County.
We asked Democratic Candidate for County Executive Mike Ferguson about the geographic divide in the county.
“Having worked in Jamestown, Bemus and Fredonia you can see that (geographic divide) through the weather patterns,” Ferguson said. “When you get to the Cassadaga line, it could be 70 degrees in one part of the county and 45 in the other.”
Ferguson’s opponent George Borrello seems to agree.
“There is no easy way to get from the north end of the county to the south end of the county” Borrello said.
Route 60 is the primary route to travel north to south. Borrello said on some days it is quicker to get to Buffalo from Dunkirk than Dunkirk to Jamestown.
“It’s unfortunate that you can hop on the thruway and get to Hamburg in 35 minutes but it takes me a solid hour to get to Jamestown,” Borrello said.
