Wanted Man Allegedly Possessed A “Significant” Amount Of Meth During Arrest

FREDONIA –  A man wanted out of the City of Jamestown was arrested while allegedly in possession of a significant amount of methamphetamine during a traffic stop recently on Bennett Road near Walmart, according to the Fredonia Police Department.
Merle C. Smith, 36, of 532 Deer Street, Dunkirk, was also allegedly in possession of a scale and packaging materials associated with street level drug sales. Smith was charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and operating with a loud exhaust.
Smith was arraigned in the Village of Fredonia Court and remanded to county jail on $10,000 cash/$20,000 property bail. Smith’s warrant in Jamestown is for violation of probation for endangering the welfare of a child. He also reportedly has a warrant for a burglary charge in Warren County.
