Washington Middle School Students Show Holiday Spirit With Stocking Project

JAMESTOWN – Students at Washington Middle School are getting into the holiday season’s spirit and showed it by creating their own felt Christmas stockings.

The stockings were a project in Sheri Brandes’ Family and Consumer Sciences classes. Students used patterns from the internet and cut and sewed them by hand, learning the running and overcast stitches.

“It was amazing to see their creativity come to life,” Brandes said. “Students were able to customize their stockings with their name, favorite characters or holiday symbols while also learning valuable skills.”

The materials came from The Teacher’s Desk in Buffalo. It is a place where teachers can shop for free for books, student supplies and teacher supplies. The Teacher’s Desk distributes free supplies for students in need.
