DUNKIRK – Water customers in the City of Dunkirk must boil and conserve water after construction crews caused a large water leak at the city’s water plant, according to Chautauqua County Heath and Human Services.
Officials say this boil water order and water conservation order is expected to be in effect through the weekend.
They advise residents to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allow it to cool before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and making ice.
They say the water is safe to use for bathing or washing.
“Temporary repairs have been made to the water leak but water levels are critically low so the City and County are asking for the cooperation of all Dunkirk water customers to conserve water as much as possible during this water emergency,” said Director of Health and Human Services Christine Schuyler.
The advisory applies to both residential and commercial customers.
