Congressional Challenger Questions Reed’s Motives After “Shocking Tweet”

JAMESTOWN –  A Democratic challenger to New York’s 23rd Congressional District said he was shocked after a tweet from an account linked to incumbent Tom Reed called him an “extreme liberal.”
“I don’t always get to send personal emails, but the other day I was scrolling through Twitter and was shocked to see my face being used by my opponent, Tom Reed,” said Eddie Sundquist via a media release.
“Instead of working to secure jobs in our district or deal with an opioid crisis, he is spending his money on calling me an “Extreme Ithaca Liberal,” Sundquist added.
Sundquist has been aggressively campaigning against Reed for the last year and a half, frequently appearing at many of Reed’s local town halls.
The Jamestown native said that Reed can call him what he wants, adding that he’ll continue to focus on his campaign.
“If being an extreme liberal means I care about having 21st century jobs in this district, or ensuring everyone has healthcare, or ending an opioid epidemic, then call me what you want,” Sundquist said. “We are standing up for hard -working people in this district, not cutting people down.”
