Gerace To Seek Re-Election In Contested Race

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace (D) announced Sunday he will seek re-election this fall.
Gerace will take on former Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Lieutenant James Quattrone (R),  who announced his candidacy last month.
“Since I was first elected as Chautauqua County Sheriff, my professional team of deputies, correction officers, 911 dispatchers and other staff and I have risen to every challenge presented to the office at the least possible cost to property taxpayers,” Gerace said in a statement.
“I am asking the voters of Chautauqua County to allow me to carry out the mission of this office for the next four years,” he added.
The Sheriff noted many accomplishments, including the county’s EMT Program; where deputies are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians and respond to medial calls with volunteer fire departments.
During Gerace’s time in office, he’s upgraded the county’s radio system to improve communication between emergency service agencies.
The thirty-nine- year Sheriff’s Office veteran holds a Master’s degree in administration from Alfred University, a Bachelors degree in Police Science from Mercyhurst College, and an Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Jamestown Community College.
He has been extensively trained by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to the release sent by his campaign.
The Sheriff is scheduled to appear on NewsNow Wednesday, April 18,  where he will discuss his campaign, accomplishments of the office, and challenges he faces.
