Poll: Governor Cuomo’s Lead Over Primary Challenger Shrinking, But Still Sizable

ALBANY – Voters surveyed for a recent political poll favor incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo  to beat challenger Cynthia Nixon in New York’s upcoming Democratic Primary.
The poll, released by Quinnipiac University, shows fifty percent of those surveyed support Cuomo for the Democratic nomination, while 30 percent back Cynthia Nixon.
Nixon, a former “Sex and the City” actress, has based her campaign on appealing to a faction of the wing of the Democratic Party.
Nixon said young people, women and people of color – those voter blocs to whom she is appealing – “are going to stop showing up for the Democratic Party if the Democratic Party doesn’t start showing up for them.”
Cuomo’s lead is shrinking slowly, according to a similar poll released last mont, which gave him a thirty-one percent lead over Nixon.
New York’s Democratic Primary is September 13th.
