Falconer School Concert Highlights Holiday Season And Students Will To Pursue Music

FALCONER – Young musicians at Falconer Central School hosted a Christmas concert Thursday evening that featured various holiday medleys, Christmas classics and notable pieces like Hallelujah Chorus.

Music Teacher and Choir Director Ann Marie Mogenhan told WNYNewsNow that students are required to take some sort of art elective before they graduate, yet many stick with the class throughout their time in the district.

“I think it’s a nice class to get away from the traditional classes of math and sciences,” Mogenhan said. “They can use their right side of their brain to make music and give back to the community.”

Many districts have recently cut such music programs. Mogenhan said that Falconer is the exception.

“We have had a very supportive administration and board of education, and have kept music and arts in our schools,” Mogenhan said.

She noted that many kids love to participate in music and believes that is why they stay with the program all four years of their high school careers.
