Falconer Schools To Host Bye Bye Birdie

FALCONER – Falcon Productions will present their rendition of Bye Bye Birdie this weekend.
The musical, set in the 1960s, is about love, war and crazed fan girls.
Rock star Conrad Birdie is selected for the draft, and his fans are devastated, but one of them gets a super special day with the idol.
“Kim is like a normal dramatic teenage girl; she’s obsessed with Conrad Birdie who is like Elvis Presley,” said Hannah Wallace, who plays Kim McAfee. “At first, I thought it was going to be super simple, but it’s a lot more difficult when you’re in front of an audience and you have to sing music.”
“In the beginning, I have a song about how I’m a woman finally because I’m 15 years old, and think that I should be able to do everything I want, and be free, but I’m actually not,” said Wallace. “Then I meet Conrad Birdie, who I’m supposed to kiss before he goes off to the military, and then the two of us get together and go to the ice house. (The ice house) is supposed to be like the big hangout for all the teenagers.”
Our crew also spoke to Matthew Gullotti, who plays Conrad Birdie.
“Well the biggest challenge for me is to try to get into character,” said Gullotti. “I try not to get distracted (because) you need to have a lot of focus to maintain.”
“When it comes to Falconer, you know you’re going to have a great performance. It’s a great comedy and just the fact that Conrad will be there, it will tie it all together.”
The musical showings are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM, and concludes Sunday at 2:30. All of those showings will be at Falconer Central School.
