Jamestown Schools Superintendent Discusses School Closure Procedure

JAMESTOWN – With frigid temperatures this week, Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bret Apthorpe is answering questions about school closures due to winter weather.
Apthorpe said in a video posted on the district’s Facebook page that it is often a tough decision in questionable weather to close school.
“It’s certainly the parent’s right to keep their kids home,” said Apthorpe. “While I lean on the science for when we keep schools open and closed, I would expect families to do whatever they feel is right for them.”
Apthorpe also outlined the district’s procedure for determining when to close schools for inclement weather.
The Superintendent said the school district’s decisions come from data sent out by the National Weather Service.
