JHS Raider Reader Book Swap

JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown High School recently held a ‘Raider Reader Book Swap’ to help provide books to students and staff for the holiday break.

The swap is sponsored by Raider Readers, the JHS book club. It is held for two days, twice a year in the JHS Library.

Students bring books from home that they have read and are willing to swap. They go to the library and trade each of their books for others that look interesting to them.

“The Book Swap at JHS allows students to pick new books to enjoy, while recycling old ones for others,” said JHS student Allyson Buck. “This year, I choose books to give as Christmas gifts. Because the selection changes each set, you never know what you may find! It is a great program to have at our school.”

“The Book Swap gives kids, who might not have much exposure to books, a chance to see a broad variety of reading material. It’s fun, it’s free, it’s cool!” said Mike Tuccio, JHS Social Studies Teacher

The books on the tables change every set, so there’s a constant turn over all day long; hopefully, the students will find something of interest to read over break.

“As teachers, we want to show students that we value reading, so we encourage the kids to bring a book from home that they don’t want anymore and trade it for one at the Book Swap. If a student does not have a book to trade, we have a stash of donated books that we give them. The goal is to encourage outside reading for fun,” said Barbi Price, Raider Reader Advisor.
