DUNKIRK – New York State Congressman Tom Reed toured the Western New York STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) College and Career P-Tech Academy on Thursday.
The Congressman emphasized the importance of the manufacturing industry and said that there is currently a demand for skilled workers in the area.
Furthermore, Reed explained that the P-Tech Program is a great addition to the region for it’s role in developing a skilled workforce.
Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Superintendent David O’Rourke and Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello were also on hand for the visit.
The old Dunkirk City School Building was remodeled and retrofitted with brand new technology earlier this year. It is one of 32 across the state.
In addition to classroom skills, students from across the area work hands-on in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Labs.
Once students complete their courses, they will be prepared to work in the STEM field graduating with a Regents Diploma and an Associate Degree.
