Curt Fischer’s Son Eligible To Play Against Maple Grove Friday

ELLERY – Ex-Maple Grove football and basketball head coach Curt Fischer’s son, Zach, is eligible to play basketball for Chautauqua Lake, and will play against his former school, Maple Grove, Friday evening in Maple Grove.
Chautauqua Lake Athletic Director Josh Liddell confirmed the news Friday morning to WNYNewsNow’s Ryan Hedrick, stating that the Fischer family purchased a house in the Chautauqua Lake District and moved their kids to the district in time for Zach Fischer to obtain an eligibility status from Section VI.
“The Fischer family put their house up for sale, and they have moved into the Chautauqua Lake District,” Liddell said. “It’s a midseason move, and we had to put in a transfer request through Section VI. You have to meet a bunch of guidelines, and we met those guidelines.”
Liddell said Fischer has expressed his desire to focus on his family, leaving his coaching future in football and basketball in doubt.
“We talked to him, and he’s going to take a break and be a father,” Liddell said. ” (He’s going to) try to enjoy not having the stress of coaching.”
Liddell said he wants to see a competitive game that fans can enjoy, rather than a game filled with tension.
“I hope we just have a competitive, enjoyable game,” Liddell said. “We are looking for solidarity, instead of possible tension.”
Liddell said that Maple Grove will have an “orange-out” to benefit a 7th-grader at Chautauqua Lake who’s battling leukemia. Anyone who wears orange will be admitted for free.
