Jammers Readying For 2018 Season

JAMESTOWN – This year’s Jamestown Jammers roster includes a variety of player types with All-Americans, award winners and a top national prospect.
WNYNewsNow will live stream broadcast the home opener this Friday at 7:05 p.m, weather permitting, against the Oneonta Outlaws.
The Jammers play the Oneonta Outlaws Friday at Russell Diethrick Park and look to take the next step after missing the Perfect Game Collegiate Basbeball League title by one game.
Joining Manager Anthony Barone and Coach Hayden Carter will be all college players from across the nation.
Catcher Austin Parent, from Gilbert, AZ., is attending Pitt-Bradford. A right-handed junior, he will share backstop duties. Parent was named to the All-Tournament Team for the 2014 18U WWBA West Memorial Day Classic. This past season at Pitt-Bradford, he set team records for home runs with 9, batting average at .496 and an on-base percentage og .616.. He is a 2018 Rawlings/ABCA First-Team All-American and the AMCC Player of the Year.
Catcher Ben Livorsi, the second-ranked catcher out of Minnesota, is ranked the 500th top prospect in the nation. He is a preseason All-American and attends St. Louis. A 2017 Perfect Game Preseason All-American and a 2016 Perfect Game Underclass All-American, Livorsi brings a solid bat to the field.
Gino Tortoriello, from New Egypt, N.J., bats and throws right and is a sophomore at Rowan-Burlington.
Catcher Max Silverman, a St. Anselm Freshman, is from Westford, Ma. He bats right-handed. He was a dual county Most Valuable Player and two-time all-star and a Massachusetts Sectional All-Star.
Around the rest of the diamond, Alex O’Donnell, a Star Point graduate, is in his fourth and final season with the Jammers. He is a red-shirt junior at Mercyhurst. He is the seventh-ranked shortstop prospect according to the Perfect Game scouting site. He was a 2014 Perfect Game Preseason All-American and made the All-Region team. In high school he was first-team all Western New York, second team all-state and the 2014 Niagara Gazette Player of the Year.
Infielder Brandon Nania, from Export, Pa., is a Junior at Winston-Salem. He was a 2014 Pre-Season Academic All-American and made the All-Region team. He was ranked 26th overall in Pennsylvania in 2014.
Chris Rubottom, a Freshman at Wofford, is from Long Beach, Cal. He bats right and throws right. He was a second team All-Southern Conference member and was fourth in the Conference with a .365 batting average.
Josh Lamb, a UTSA Freshman from Nederland, Tx., was a 2017 PG Preseason All-American and made the All-Region Team. He was also an honorable mention PG Preseason Underclassmen All-American Team winner in 2015 and 2016. He is listed as the 38th shortstop prospect in Texas. He was named to the Conference USA All Freshman Team with a .289 batting average.
Rashad Stewart, a right-handed hitting second baseman from Dinwiddie, Va., is attending Winston-Salem as a junior.
Sterling Hayes, a Vanderbilt Freshman from La Jolla, Cal., is one to watch as he keeps rising, according to the Perfect Game scouting site. Hayes has a list of honors and trophies. The right-handed hitter has gap to gap power and scouts say he continues to improve and that his bat “stands out.”
Roaming the green pastures of the outfield this year are a mix of talented players.
Chase Keng, a UTSA Freshman from Houston, Tx., comes into the season as one of the top 1,000 players and is climbing into the top 500. He is rated the 48th best outfielder in Texas. He was a preseason All-American. The left-handed hitter is 6-1 and 195 pounds. He was the Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Hitter of the Year.
Daillin Lee, a lefty outfielder from Santa Ana, Cal., is a Sophomore at UC-Irvine. Lee was a three-time All League player in high school.
Isaiah Thomas just may be a star in the making if the Perfect Game scouts are right. The Vanderbilt Freshman from North Palm, Fla., according to scouts,  offers power with more to come, outstanding speed and solid raw arm strength. He has a high ceiling, scouts said and makes the ball jump off his bat. He is a 2018 Rawlings Perfect Game Third Team All-American and participated in the National Showcase. He is listed as the 142nd ranked prospect in America and made the National Showcase Top Prospect List.
Jeff Timko, from Rochester Hills, Mi., is a Sophomore at Eastern Michigan. In high school he was all conference, all district, all region and all state team member. He spent 2017 as a medical red shirt.
Josh Brammell, a Sophomore at NC Central, from Harrison City, Pa. He hits and throws left.
Rane Pfeifer, a Cal-State Northridge Freshman, is from Comfort, Tex. In high school he was named the all-district team his final three years.
A variety of talented young men will take the hill this year for the Jammers.
Cameron Schmidt, a left-handed Freshman at Nova Southeastern, hales from Coral Springs, Fla. He is listed inside the top 400 pitching prospects. In 2017 he was a PG preseason All-American. Scouts say he has an above average fastball and sets it off with a solid curve and good changeup. Between high school and club ball last year, Schmidt went 11-3 with 111 strikeouts in only 77 innings.
Clay Schwaner, a Freshman at Wofford, is from Peoria, Az. His high school career includes going 5-0 as a senior with a 1.91 ERA. He was named first team All-Region, first team All-Section, and first team Arizona BCA All-State. He was the starting pitcher in the Arizona BCA Senior All-Star Game.
Colin Johnstone, a Rochester, N.Y. native, is a junior at Tusculum University. He played at Monroe Community College prior to Tusculum. At Monroe, Johnstone went 9-3 with a 4.83 ERA. He tossed three complete games and was 19th in the nation in wins. In high school he was three times named to the all-county first team. He was also named to the All-Greater Rochester second team and was a three-time all-star.
Connor Ryan, a red-shirt junior at Mercyhurst, is from Williamsville, N.Y. In 2017, he had seven appearances on the mound which included six starts. He struck out 34 in 30.1 innings and posted a 3.56 ERA.
Dalton Chandler, from Lamar, CO., is a freshman right-hander at Cal-State Northridge. He was a 2018 Rawlings-PG Honorable Mention All-American. Listed as a top 500 prospect, he was a National Showcase participant. Scouts say he is strong with plenty of room to get stronger. His fastball hits the high-80s with good movement. His curveball is improving.
Isaac Meza, a Cal-State Bakersfield native of Valencia, Cal., offers good life in his fastball according to scouts. They say he hits the high-80s and attacks the batters. Strong slider and a very sharp changeup. He was named to the West Coast Top Prospect List. He is ranked as the 79th pitching prospect in California and in the top 800 nationally.
Isaiah Moten, a Cal-State Bekersfield Junior from Temecula, Cal., appeared 23 times as a Sophomore, fourth most in school history. He toed the rubber against 24th-ranked UC-Santa Barbara and kayed 8 in a 2-1 win. He went 4-4 with a 3.90 ERA, third lowest on the team. Scouts say his fastball hits 90 mph.
J.J. Dunn, out of Amherst, NH., is a Junior at St. Anselm. Last season he made 11 mound visits and posted a 4.70 ERA. He went 3-6 with one save. He had 37 strikeouts. In the year before, he lead his team with a 2.67 ERA.
Jack Rose, a Freshman at Hartford, from Monroe, CT., brings a stellar high school career with him to the Jammers. A four-year member of the Masuk High School baseball team, he was a team captain and was first team all-conference in 2017. He tallied 54 strikeouts with a 1.55 ERA in 40.2 innings in 2017. He also hit .319 with two home runs, 23 hits and 21 RBI.
Jeremy Hassell is joining Cal-State Northridge as a Freshman in 2018. The Trabuco Canyon, CA., native, is a right-handed hurler.
Johnny Leone, a Freshman at Nova Southeastern, is from Hollywood, FL., Scouts say he mixes three pitches fairly well, using a high-80s fastball. He counters the heat with a good changeup and a curveball. His heater has topped out at 88 mph.
Right-hander Kyle McCormick, a red-shirt sophomore at Cuesta College, started one game this past season and pitched in six others. He tallied  11 strikeouts and 8 walks in 18 innings.
Nikolas Sanders, a red-shirt freshman at Nova Southeastern, from Coral Springs, FL., didn’t see any baseball action in 2017 as a redshirter. In high school he hit .365 with a .474 on-base percentage, .619 slugging percentage and three home runs as a senior. He also tallied a 1.45 ERA with 11 strikeouts on the mound.
Preston Yerrington, a Junior at St. Anselm, is from Manchetser, NH. Last season he lead his squad with 13 games pitched, including a start. He was 0-2 with a 7.04 ERA and 17 strikeouts. In high school, Yerrington was a third-team all-state selection. He hurled three complete games as a senior including a win over then-undefeated Manchester Memorial.
Ryan Boyer, from Bradford, Pa., is a Junior at Pitt-Bradford. This past season, Boyer was named to the All-AMCC second team. He twice was named AMCC player of the week. He posted a 5-2 mark in 10 starts. He topped the team with 58.2 innings pitched with a 4.45 ERA. He registered 66 strikeouts, third most in the AMCC. Trevor Lloyd, a red-shirt Freshman from Knoxville, TN., is attending Tusculum College. Scouts credit a quick arm and a quick pace to his delivery as reasons for his success. His changeup is advanced and offers good sinking action. He also offers a strong sweeping curve. He was named to the Southeast Underclass Showcase Top Prospect Team.
Zach Sanders is from Peachtree City, GA. and attends Tusculum College. He posted a 30-4 mark with 34 strikeouts and a 7.00 ERA. In high school, he was a two-time all regional player. His senior year he had a 1.80 ERA. He also quarterbacked his football team.
