JCC VP Says Search For Permanent Athletic Director Remains Ongoing

JAMESTOWN – The search to find a permanent, full-time athletic director for Jamestown Community College remains ongoing two months after former athletic director Keith Martin resigned to accept a position as the Executive Director for the Northwest Arena.
In an interview with WNYNewsNow Thursday, JCC’s Vice President of Enrollment Management and Institutional Advancement, Kirk Young said that the search is being advertised “broadly.”
“We’ve gone out with a national search,” Young said. “It is something where internal candidates, obviously, are welcome to apply for the position, but we also had to advertise that position broadly.”
When asked if the college has narrowed the search towards a specific group of candidates, Young declined comment, saying that the college doesn’t usually comment on specifics during an “open, and ongoing search.”
“Once we get to determining some finalists for the position, then we will invite those finalists on campus for a presentation,” Young said. “At that point, it becomes public information, and we haven’t quite reached that point yet where we have some finalists identified.”
Young said that the response the college has received to the posting is “broad,” especially as a position such as athletic director oftentimes garners heavy interest.
Greg Pretchel, who served as SUNY Fredonia’s athletic director for years, is now serving as the interim athletic director for JCC. Young said that he reached out to Pretchel through a mutual connection, and he agreed to help the college.
Young declined comment when asked if Pretchel expressed interest in serving as the permanent athletic director.
Young said the search is being handled internally by the college administration, but they are keeping the Board of Trustees informed.
