Alleged Drunk Driver Reportedly Caused Multiple Wrecks Following Hit-And-Run

JAMESTOWN – Multiple vehicle collisions that started with a hit-and-run near Fairmount Ave and Hallock Street Friday night were touched off by a drunk man who is now in State Police custody.
The initial wreck occurred shortly before 7:30 pm, but quickly escalated when the unidentified man did not stop, according to dispatch.
Several sources tell WNYNewsNow that witnesses at the scene followed the man’s vehicle once they realized he wasn’t going to stop.
The same sources said the people giving chase had also called for help and stayed on the phone with  authorities and emergency operators.
Dispatch said the man caused multiple accidents as he fled traveling west on Fairmount.
The series of collisions came hours after New York State Police vowed to step up patrols in hopes of taking drunk and drugged drivers off of the road in the days leading up to the 4th of July.
