HINSDALE – A fire at the Town’s Highway Department on Thursday destroyed a building, a dump truck and sent two people to the hospital according to Hinsdale Fire Chief Kelly Karst.
“Upon arrival they (firefighters) found heavy fire and called for mutual aid,” said Karst. “Fortunately there was an alarm system that notified us before the fire got going too far.”
Karst also said that tractor trailers were damaged during the blaze.
“They still have multiple trucks that they can use but every road has a plow that takes care of it so it will be a blow,”Karst said.
One of the people taken to the hospital was a town worker suffering from smoke inhalation. Officials said a neighbor down the road from where the fire was located also was taken to get treatment.
Karst said he believes both victims will recover but said he didn’t see or speak to them.
The Cattaraugus County Fire Investigators are looking into a cause, according to Karst.
