County Emergency Officials Continue To Monitor Irving Ice Jam

IRVING – Emergency officials are monitoring an ice jam along the Cattaraugus Creek near Sunset Bay Tuesday.

County Executive George Borrello happens to live in that area. He says county officials are, right now, monitoring the situation and that the water level is high due to the ice jam. Water, however, continues to flow through it. Officials believe the jam should clear itself up sometime today.
“The jam, itself, looks about a quarter-mile long,” Borrello said. “It’s a significant amount of ice, but behind it is open water, so that’s a good sign.”
Borrello says emergency services will continue to monitor the situation and, if the water level continues to rise, they will consider an evacuation. Right now, an evacuation doesn’t appear to be necessary per Borrello.
