Falconer Mayor: 11 People Homeless As “Tragedy Strikes Again” In The Village

FALCONER – A fire in a building on the corner of North Work and West Main Streets forced people from their homes on Sunday as temps plummeted well below the freezing mark.
“The fire alarm went out shortly between 11:30 – 12:00 and we don’t know the cause of the fire yet,” said Falconer James Rensel.
“There was apartments above the store fronts that caught on fire,” said Rensel. “The Red Cross and the Salvation Army are taking care of the 11 people that were displaced by the fire.”
Rensel said, according to the owner of the building, everybody got out safe and everyone was accounted for.
One firefighter reportedly injured his knee and was taken to the hospital.
Rensel said that the displaced victims were taken to Falconer Central School, which will serve as a temporary shelter for them.
“Tragedy strikes again, and with other things going on, this just adds to it,” said Rensel.
County Fire Investigators are at the scene, working with insurance companies to determine the amount of damage to 15 West Main St.
According to Rensel, The Falconer Vac Shop and the beauty salon sustained most of the damage.
The Blue Fin Pet Shop sustained smoke odor damage. Officials are working on a plan to help the pet shop owners.
Part of West Main Street is expected to be closed for the next several days.
The fire was reportedly extinguished with only ‘hot spots’ remaining as of Sunday afternoon.

  2. My brother had just moved into an apartment on the third floor a couple weeks ago. He lost everything. He had put all his savings into deposit and security and rent. He has nothing to start over with.
