Former Jammer In Hunt To Manage Phillies

PHILADELPHIA-Former Jamestown Jammer Gabe Kapler, who played for Jamestown in 1995, is reportedly the leading candidate to become the latest manager of the Philadelphia Phillies.

An official announcement has not been named. Kapler has been the L.A. Dodgers director of player development since 2014. If hired, Kapler will replace Pete Mackanin. The Phillies were 66-96 this season.

In 1995 Kapler had 4 HRs, 34 RBI, 1 SB and hit .288 with Jamestown. The 57th-round draftee of the Detroit Tigers hit .268 with 82 HRs, 386 RBI and 77 SB in parts of 12 major league seasons. He played for the Tigers, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Rays, as well as spending time with Yomuri in the Japanese league.
