JAMESTOWN-The Jamestown Jammers registered a five-run seventh inning thanks in large part to the self-imploding Elmira Pioneers, giving the hosts a 9-3 playoff victory Wednesday evening at Diethrick Park.
Bulldogs reliever Josh Smith walked three Jammers in the bottom of the seventh before being yanked. Smith allowed three earned runs without surrendering a hit.
Fellow Bulldogs reliever Jackson Tedder surrendered two runs (only one earned because of second baseman Andrew Orzel’s error). Tedder also walked two before patching the damage.
Jamestown center fielder Skyler Valentine scorched an RBI triple off the lefty during the huge inning.
Jammers right fielder John Conti laced two doubles (three total hits) for two RBIs to lead the home team’s offense. Third baseman Chris Estrada added two RBIs.
Jamestown starting southpaw Bradley Griggs’s performance wasn’t completely lost in the seventh inning shuffle. Griggs tossed six innings, allowing just three runs (two earned) while fanning five for the win.
Elmira starter Grant Donahue surrendered four runs (three earned) in six innings for the loss.
Jamestown will play at Elmira Thursday evening in Game Two of a best-of-three playoff series. The contest will start at 7:05.
