WEST ELLICOTT – A 16 year-old girl who was reported missing Wednesday, has been located safe and sound, according to Police Chief William Ohmeiss.
“She was returned to her mother,” said Ohmeiss. “We always treat them {missing child reports} for the highest urgency, there was no foul play, she just kind of didn’t want to go to school.”
A local resident called WNY News Now after police knocked on the door of her home to with questions about the girl’s whereabouts.
Police put a broadcast message out to county dispatch shortly after the girl was reported missing.
“The whole county heard the message,” said Ohmeiss. “If it would’ve escalated for whatever reason or we had reason to believe some sort of foul play we would’ve issued an Amber Alert.”
AMBER Alert capabilities are operational statewide, as defined by the map below, and a procedure is in place to share information with neighboring states and Canadian provinces and, when appropriate, request activation of their AMBER Alert systems.
