WESTERN NEW YORK – Community Reporters and Google Traffic reports poor driving conditions due to snow on Route 60 between Cassadaga and Fredonia Tuesday morning. State Police have closed the road from Fredonia to Cassadaga as semi-trucks struggle to make it up the hill on the route.
Traffic was also tied up on Panama-Stedman Road near Fox Road after a tree fell in the road around 8 a.m. More trees were reported down blocking the roadway in Stockton and Bemus Point; but crews have cleared that scene.
Several vehicle accidents were also reported due to poor weather conditions. First responders worked a two-vehicle crash with injuries on Bemus-Ellery Road near Brown Road. There was also a crash on Goshen Road in Panama, and a car struck a horse on Kortwright Road in Ashville.
The National Weather Service said a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Southern Erie counties.
Heavy lake effect snow combined with wind gusts of up to 40 mph will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow.
Officials said motorists should plan ahead before leaving for the morning and evening commutes. They also remind drivers to keep extra space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
