Several Hundred National Grid Workers Dispatched To Restore Power To Thousands In Region

JAMESTOWN – There are slightly less than 18,000 National Grid customers in Western New York without power at this moment Friday and half of those customers live in the Southern Tier, according to a company spokesman.
Brady said most customers should be restored today, other than in the southern part of Cattaraugus County that’s closer to Allegany County.
“We really won’t have a good idea of final restoration (in that area) until later today because we are still assessing damage, ” said National Grid’s Manager of Corporate Communications Steve Brady. “It’s clear in those areas we’re going to be working into tomorrow, but how late into tomorrow, I don’t know.
Brady said that numerous workers are attempting to restore power, and that there isn’t a lot of buffer room in regards to rotating people.
“Right now, we have 200 or so workers in the field,” Brady said. “Because most of the East Coast was under some level of storm warning, there’s not a lot of people from other crews. We’ll move crews around within the division.
