St. Bonaventure Men’s Soccer Team Set To Continue Road Trip

LORETTO (Pa.)-The St. Bonaventure University men’s soccer team continues its four-game road tilt Saturday against Saint Francis (Pa.) in a 3 p.m. battle in Loretto, Pa., fresh off a 3-1 road loss last Sunday at Marist.

Junior Kosi Nwafornso scored the lone Bonnies goal off a rebound.

The home Red Flash have won three straight games to post a 5-3 record heading into Saturday against the Bonnies. Junior Mario Mastrangelo leads Saint Francis with eight goals. Goalkeeper Marcus Rojas, a redshirt senior, has  saved 20 shots and allowed eleven.  Rojas led his team to a 5-0 victory against Howard on Wednesday.

Both teams have played in overtime on numerous occasions this season. Saint Francis has played through three OT games, most recently back-to-back victories in a West Coast road trip for the Johann Memorial Classic in Las Vegas against UNLV and CSU-Bakersfield respectively.   Mastrangelo  scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute to end the desert road trip with a 2-0 record Sept. 17.

The Bonnies have played in five overtime games this season, four of which have gone to double-overtime including the most recent 1-1 draw in Lewiston, N.Y. against the Niagara Purple Eagles.

St. Bonaventure junior goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis enters Saturday’s game with 49 saves this season, 11 stops away from tying his single-season career high of 60 set during the 2016 season. Last Sunday’s game was the first time Iacobellis had reached double-digits in saves this season.
