JAMESTOWN-The Director of Chautauqua County’s Veterans Services Agency spoke at the fifth annual Gold Star Memorial Ceremony in Jamestown’s Veteran Memorial Park Saturday.
Keynote speaker and retired US Air Force Major Gregory Carlson reminded onlookers that freedom is never free and that it was paid for “by the hearts, the minds, the bodies, and the souls of veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
Many prominent political figures from local and state government were also in attendance.
The ceremony concluded with the yearly re-dedication of the Gold Star Memorial, a reading of names of fallen veterans, balloon release, an honorary firing squad, taps, and Amazing Grace performed by Pamela Silver and Doug Clark on bagpipes.
A full video of the ceremony will be posted on our YouTube page.
