Sheriff’s Office To Host Boater Safety Courses

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office will be holding three boater safety courses this spring.
Pre-registration is not required to attend any of the courses, as registration will take place at the course. Parents of attendees under the age of 18 must sign a release form at the course.
Students must be at least 10-years-old by the date of the course. Anyone between 10-17 years old will be admitted for free, while anyone 18-years-old and over will have to pay a $10 fee to New York State to receive their certification card.
This course is now required for anyone born after May 1st, 1996 to operate any vessel in New York State. Anyone born prior to that date is exempt from this requirement unless they plan to operate a personal watercraft.
To operate a personal watercraft, a boaters safety course is required for all operators, with a minimum age of 14.

Saturday, May 19th at Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club. 1 N. Mullet St., Dunkirk NY. The course will take place from 8 AM-4PM.
Students are asked to bring lunch.
Another course will be held on Saturday, May 26th at the Lawson Center in Bemus Point. The address is 73 Lakeside Dr. The course will be held from 8-4 PM.
Lunch will be provided by the Lawson Center.
The Lawson Center will also host another course on Saturday, June 2nd from 8 AM-4 PM.
