A Chance For Gusty Storms This Afternoon

JAMESTOWN – Today is the day we’ve all been looking forward to; it’s the grand opening of the National Comedy Center in conjunction with the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival. However, we may be dodging a few rain drops through this afternoon.
The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has outlined portions of Western New York under a less-than-average Marginal Risk (1/5) for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with a standard Slight Risk (2/5) out to our East. The main threat with any storms today will be gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

SPC Convective Outlook Day 1

What we’re keeping an eye on is the cloud cover. It’s been socked in much of the day. With the clouds hanging tough, that may limit the overall chances of severe weather, as the atmosphere cannot heat up quickly with clouds blanketing the sky.
While there are rain chances nearly each and every day, please understand that will not be raining all the time. There will be breaks at times but do not count on much, if any, sunshine, for the next several days.
As we’ve been talking about, the heat and humidity will make a return as we go throughout the week, into next week. Temps will, once again, be in the mid to upper 80s with oppressive humidity levels, adding the noticeable (and nasty) “stick” to the air.
