JAMESTOWN – One could say that spring has finally sprung across Western New York, and while that would be a good assumption, Mother Nature has other plans.
For today, rain will expanse in coverage throughout the day. There could be some pockets of locally heavy rainfall as well.
There will be some minor breaks in the rain coverage early on this afternoon, but sunshine will be nowhere to be found; the clouds will just be stubborn.
In terms for rainfall, we’ll likely pick up around half an inch to one inch. The in-house VIPIRCast computer model has been pointing to rainfall totals closer to one and a half inches, but I think that might be a bit exaggerated. However, one inch of rain in a 24 hour period is nothing to sneeze at; a soaker indeed.
As we enter colder air tomorrow, rain will change over to snow in the morning and early afternoon, mainly in the hills, and then change back to all rain for the remainder of the day.
With rain mixing in with the snow, that will keep the snow from accumulating too much. Likely around an inch for most areas.
However, if we can get cold enough in the lower levels to allow a more sticker snow with a lower rain ingredient, we could see some areas upwards of over an inch, maybe even closer to two inches, and the best chance that will be on the hills.
Easter Forecast: A storm system down in the deep south will ride along the Tennessee Valley, through the Ohio River Valley, and pass by Western New York through the weekend.
This will usher in much colder air with a northwest flow from Canada; keeping us in the 30s all day, and bringing us the chance for some Easter flakes. And that’s not an April Fools joke.
Right now, the current thinking is snow accumulation will be nearing an inch for most spots, with some likely higher amounts along hillier terrain.
