Rt. 60 Flooded, Winter Weather To Come This Weekend

KIANTONE – Parts of Rt. 60 near Rt. 62 are shut down as the snow melt continues causing water in the Conewango Creek to jump its banks.
New York State Police Captain Eric Balon says that his troopers and Department of Transportation crews are there a year after every time snow melts.
“We’re here year after year,” Captain Balon said. “We’re used to dealing with the floods, especially in this area.”
State Police advise people to not drive on flooded roads as your car may get stuck.

Balon said that even though officials have set up barricades to close the roads, people still seem to try and go around them.
“It’s convenient because the detours take longer, but it’s easier for people to take the route they normally go,” said Balon.
Forecasters expect rain to turn into snow later Friday. Balon reminds drivers to take care while that transition happens as roads may be slick.
